Set in 1948, Nefertiti “Doll Baby” Gayarré returns to her home in New Orleans hoping to restart her failing singing career. Her boyfriend and manager, Slim, book her a gig at the infamous Lagniappe Club. Sadly, her opening night is a failure and the play opens as Doll Baby tries to come to grips with her inability to turn her life around. A local news reporter tries to do a story about Doll Baby but Doll Baby ends up passing out, and in a drunken sleep, Doll Baby is visited by ghosts from her past, present and future. Each one trying to stop Doll Baby from the path of destruction that she is on. In the same vein as A Christmas Carol, Still Singing Those Weary Blues shows the audience just how tenuous life can be and that if we aren’t careful, the future will go on without us.
